This is the pendant that steals the show before it's even switched on. A bold black iron dome hangs from a hand-finished scissor arm – the kind of concertina mechanism you'd find in an old engineering workshop – which stretches and folds to set the drop exactly where you want it. Lower it to around 130 cm over a kitchen island for focused task light, or fold it up to just 60 cm for a cleaner line when the room needs more headroom.

Lit, the 28 cm dome sends a warm, generous pool of light straight down onto the table or worktop, while the white interior bounces it back for a bright, glare-free glow. Unlit, the riveted criss-cross arm and matt black finish give it real sculptural presence. It looks just as at home in a Victorian terrace with exposed brick and Crittall-style glazing as it does in a new-build open-plan kitchen – and hung in a pair or a row of three, it creates that sought-after loft and café look.

Installation

This light is hardwired to your ceiling lighting point and should be installed by a qualified electrician, in line with Part P of the UK Building Regulations. Always switch off the power at the consumer unit before installation.

Care

Always switch off and allow the bulb to cool before cleaning. Wipe the shade and arm with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid water, sprays and household cleaners, which can dull the finish.
