Some lights simply fill a room with brightness. Orbit gives it a centrepiece. A slim gold-finish bar floats beneath the ceiling, with glass globes set at playful, staggered heights along its length, like a string of planets caught mid-orbit. Switched on, each globe glows softly from within and scatters a gentle light across the table below. Switched off, it hangs like a piece of mid-century sculpture.

It looks just as right in the dining room of a Victorian terrace, set against deep painted walls and wood panelling, as it does above the island of a bright, open-plan new-build kitchen. Its long, linear shape follows the line of a dining table or kitchen island, so light falls exactly where you need it.

Choose amber glass for a warm, honeyed glow with a vintage feel, or smoky grey glass for a cooler, more contemporary look. Both come in a 7-light (78 cm) or 9-light (95 cm) version, with the frame finished in the same warm gold.

Tip: over a dining table or island, aim for the bottom of the globes to sit around 75–85 cm above the surface. Choose the 7-light for tables up to about 160 cm long and the 9-light for longer tables and islands. For the cosiest evening glow, pick warm white 3000K.

Installation

This is a hardwired ceiling light and must be installed by a qualified electrician in line with UK wiring regulations (Part P of the Building Regulations in England and Wales). Decide on the rod length before fitting so the chandelier hangs at the right height over your table or island. Fit the bulbs before attaching the glass globes.

Care

Always switch off at the mains and let the bulbs cool before cleaning. Wipe the frame with a soft, dry cloth. The glass globes can be gently removed and wiped with a soft, slightly damp cloth, then dried fully before refitting. Avoid abrasive cleaners and sprays.
